Your care journey

What to expect, step by step

From the first phone call to ongoing review, here is exactly how care with Skillcare unfolds — and how quickly.

  1. 1

    Step 1 of 5 · Call · Email · Online form

    Making the enquiry

Tell us what is happening, in as much or as little detail as you like. There is nothing to prepare and no form to fill in first — a real person talks it through with you, and tells you honestly whether we are the right fit.

    Same-day response
  2. 2

Step 2 of 5 · At home · No obligation

    Free needs assessment

We come to you. We look at the whole picture — health and medication, daily routines, the home itself and its risks, cultural and language preferences, and what you actually want the week to look like. Nothing is signed on the day.

    Within 48 hours
  3. 3

Step 3 of 5 · Written · Agreed with you

    Personalised care plan

You get a written plan setting out exactly what will happen, when, and by whom, with clear costs alongside it. It is agreed with you rather than handed to you — and it changes whenever your needs do.

  4. 4

Step 4 of 5 · Matched carer · Proper introduction

    Care begins

Your carer is introduced properly before they start, not sent as a stranger on the first morning. Matching weighs specialist experience, personality, language and how close they live — because reliability depends on all four, not just the first.

On a date and time agreed with you
  5. 5

    Step 5 of 5 · 6-week, then 3–6 monthly

    Ongoing care & review

We review at six weeks, then every three to six months — checking the plan still fits, the carers are still right, and whether the support needs to grow or step down. Where we can help you need us less, we will.

    Continuous

What families tell us

A selection of feedback from the people we look after and the professionals we work with.

★★★★★
"Mum was adamant she did not want anyone in the house. Six months on she has two carers she genuinely looks forward to seeing. That change did not happen by accident — it happened because Skillcare took the time to get the match right."
Daniel R.Daughter's family, Barnet
★★★★★
"My father was discharged on a Friday afternoon with almost no notice. Skillcare had a carer at the house by early evening and a full plan in place by Monday. I do not know what we would have done otherwise."
Priya A.Family member, Harrow
★★★★★
"As a social worker I place a lot of packages. Skillcare are one of the few providers who tell me honestly when they cannot take something on. That reliability is worth more than any glossy brochure."
J. WhitfieldSocial worker, North London
★★★★★
"I had been caring for my husband alone for two years and I was completely spent. Respite from Skillcare gave me my afternoons back. It is not an exaggeration to say it kept me going."
Margaret O.Wife and family carer, Enfield
★★★★★
"What struck me was that the carer spoke Gujarati. My grandmother relaxed the moment she realised she could be understood in her own language. Small thing, enormous difference."
Nisha P.Granddaughter, Wembley
